It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

santa glasses resizeOkay…okay…not quite yet. But, Labor Day has passed and summer is officially over, which means that every product in every store is consequently in the process of turning pumpkin-spiced, and Halloween costume shops are filling in vacant strip malls on every block in town.

It wasn’t long ago that every holiday enjoyed its own special time starting a week or two after the proceeding holiday. Now back-to-school sales seem to start well before summer break, and we’re lucky if we can make it to Thanksgiving before we hear Bing Crosby dreaming of the white stuff.

Now, we’re not suggesting you rush out this weekend to procure the perfect tree – there’ll be plenty of time for that later – but we are implying that you may want to start thinking ahead to the flurry of festivities that accompany the holiday season.

Office parties, kids’ parties, people to acknowledge, family members to remember…the list seems to multiply every year. But no matter how early stores start decking the halls, it’s easy to procrastinate and put off shopping until the last minute – when stores are crowded, lines are long, and shelves are picked over.

Why not start shopping now?

It’s never too early to begin thinking about holiday gift giving, and here at Tipton & Hurst, we will make your shopping a breeze. Did you know you can order your holiday flowers as early as you’d like? You won’t even be billed until the flowers are delivered, and if you ordered from us in the past, we probably have your order on file so you can see just what you sent last time that the boss loved so much.

Let us save you valuable time and ease the Black Friday frustration by taking care of all your floral needs. Imagine being able to cross off part of your holiday shopping list before the leaves even turn colors and hit the ground! From large corporate parties to simple bud vases, we’re here to assist you with any size order. We even go beyond flowers with beautiful green plants, poinsettias, and holiday gift baskets – perfect for everyone on your list!

The holidays may not be here yet, but they’re right around the corner. Don’t let them sneak up on you this year; one phone call to your friends at Tipton & Hurst is all it takes!

Back to School – A Perfect Time for Flowers!

back to school bannerIt’s that time of year once again – summer vacations are winding down and school is back in session (or will be very soon). Whether you’re excited about this time or year or are already missing the hustle and bustle of summer activities, it’s an excellent opportunity to start anew. It’s a special time of year with a clean slate or new memories to be made and new friendships to formed, so why not take the time to celebrate the occasion – and what better way to celebrate than with flowers?

No matter what you role you play in the start of a new school year, there are plenty of opportunities to spread some cheer with some fresh flowers or plants. Here are a few ideas:

Apples are so cliché

Why does nearly every illustration of a classroom depict a big, juicy apple on top of the teacher’s desk? It may be a nice gesture in theory, but in reality, it pales in comparison to a beautiful bouquet of flowers! Even better would be a lovely green plant that would last the entire year.

It takes a village

Most people immediately think of teachers when they think of school, but it takes a finely tuned machine comprised of dozens (or even hundreds) of people to make a school run smoothly. From bus drivers to librarians and administrators to custodians – and everyone in between; there are many behind-the-scenes areas where people spend their time. Why not make these spaces special with some pretty petals?

Empty nest? Fill it with flowers

With kids back at school, the house is probably a lot quieter this time of year – which makes this an excellent reason to treat mom and dad to some beautiful flowers. They’ll appreciate the gesture and it’s a nice way of saying thanks for all their time spent on summer activities. Conversely, if you have older students leaving home for school, what better way to warm up their dorm or apartment with beautiful flowers and plants?

Whatever the reason, flowers are the perfect way to make someone’s day a little brighter. Tipton & Hurst can help you find the perfect gift for any occasion, whether it’s school-related, a birthday or anniversary, or just something out of the blue. Give us a call today – we’ll take care of the rest.

Tipton & Hurst Floral Designs for the Governor’s Inaugural: Featured in At Home Arkansas

On Tuesday, January 13th, Asa Hutchinson was inaugurated as the governor of Arkansas. That evening, the “A New Day in Arkansas Inaugural Ball” honored the new governor and first lady of our state. Tipton & Hurst was asked to design the floral arrangements for the event.

Shayla Copas, of Shayla Copas Interiors, served as the designer of the Arkansas Inaugural Ball. As featured in At Home Arkansas, Shayla shares her experience in planning and preparing for the big event, and here’s what she had to say about Tipton & Hurst:

As I do for many of the soirees I design, I first met with my “dream team,” the key players, whom I knew could bring their awesome talents to the project.

First up? Chris Norwood, Vice President of Tipton and Hurst Florist. Chris is a good and longtime friend, and his incredible floral designs have graced many a gala in our state. To give you a little background on Chris, he is a floral genius who has served as National President of the American Floral Institute of Floral Designers and, in the past, as their CEO and chairman. Last year, Chris was given the prestigious honor of being named as a fellow of the organization. Locally, you can catch Chris most Tuesday mornings on KATV sharing with Central Arkansans his brilliant floral design ideas.

The event was put on by the Centers for Youth and Families. This year’s theme, Winter nights, included centerpieces with ivory branches and gorgeous white hydrangeas accented with hanging candles.

The Center for Youth and Families in Little Rock provides assistance and care for at-risk families and troubled children.

2015 Woman of the Year Gala

We were honored to be the official florist of the 2015 Woman of the Year Gala. Not only were we able to put together some beautiful centerpieces, but the fruit was donated after the event!

The board of Women & Children First, the state’s largest shelter for survivors of domestic violence, held the gala Jan. 17 in the Little Rock Marriott Grand Ballroom downtown.

Hurst Home Makes Cover of At Home Arkansas

The Hurst home made the cover of the December At Home Arkansas magazine!

“As president and marketing director of Tipton & Hurst, Howard Hurst and his wife Stacy know the jam-packed calendar of celebrations this time of year means it will be peak season for their floral- and event-design business. However, when it comes to their own home’s holiday decorations, they not only approach the project with all the creative skill and resources available to them, but also strive to create a haven for themselves—a festive-yet-tranquil refuge from the hustle and bustle.”

2014 Miracle Ball

In 2006, the ACH Auxiliary teamed up with the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation to host the Miracle Ball, its first black-tie fundraiser for the hospital. At this yearly event, guests celebrate the joys of the holiday season and the miracles that happen every day at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Tipton & Hurst was honored to be the official florist of the 2014 Miracle Ball. Vice President and Head Designer Chris Norwood, AIFD, led the Tipton & Hurst team in creating a wide variety of centerpieces and floral displays to compliment the golden atmosphere of the venue. Lush white hydrangeas, pastel roses and boxwood can be found among the numerous stunning arrangements.

See the full album of photos here.

The Miracle Ball has become the signature event of the social season in central Arkansas. Auxiliary members share ideas on decorations, food and music and many volunteer their time to transform a plain conference space into a haven of class and elegance. The event raises $500,000 annually.

27′ Christmas Tree Installation at the Capital Hotel

Just one day after Thanksgiving, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at one of Little Rock’s downtown landmarks.

We installed the Capital Hotel Christmas tree on Friday, a 27-foot-tall white fir removed by helicopter from a hillside on the Oregon-Washington border and then delivered to Arkansas. Hotel officials say it’s believed to be one of the largest, if not the largest, natural Christmas trees in the state.

“The holiday season is a fantastic time for family, and we pride ourselves on being the front porch of Little Rock,” said Nick Bradley-Hole, director of rooms for the hotel. “If you don’t get in the spirit, come on down here, because we’ll get you in the spirit pretty quickly.”

More than a dozen officials from the hotel and Tipton & Hurst worked Friday to carefully roll the tree off a trailer, onto dollies and then into the hotel lobby. There, strings were attached and it was methodically righted in the hotel’s main lobby, where it extends through the open second-floor overlook but stops short of a large stained-glass rooftop it sits beneath.

“It’s quite a process getting everything wired up,” Bradley-Hole said. “Safety comes first, obviously, and making sure we get this thing up without hurting anyone. And then getting it straight like everyone has in their household. We have that same problem with a 27-foot tree.”

It took about an hour for officials to get the tree upright and straightened after it was brought into the hotel Friday morning. Our next step will be adding its lights — more than 10,000 will adorn it — as well as ornaments, including one that’s a new glass-blown miniature replica of the hotel.

The Capital Hotel each year uses the large tree to anchor its Christmas festivities, which this year include a lighting ceremony Sunday, appearances by Santa Clause on Sundays in December and a gingerbread house workshop.

The lighting ceremony, which begins at 5:30 p.m., and the Santa appearances, which begin the next Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m., are free to the public.
